Hugo Boss Sailing

HUGO BOSS has been actively involved in sailing since 2003, when it sponsored the yacht HUGO BOSS and Alex Thomson in the legendary Rolex Fastnet race. It is one of the longest running sponsorships in the world of sailing.

The sponsorship portfolio of HUGO BOSS focuses on three major sports, Golf, Formula 1 and sailing, as well as sponsorship interests in Tennis (Davis Cup) and Football (Real Madrid & Bayern Munich). In sailing, HUGO BOSS gets another platform to demonstrate its fashion competence both on the boat and shore-side.

HUGO BOSS provides Alex and the crew with highly functional outfits for all possible weather conditions around the globe, and dresses the crew for every celebration function in the smartest possible way.

Sailing is the ideal choice to round out the HUGO BOSS sports sponsorship program. It combines grace, dynamic energy and aesthetics like few other sports. HUGO BOSS is looking forward to more exciting years of sailing.

On top of a competitive racing schedule, the ATR team tour the world with HUGO BOSS for Formula One grand prix events, product launches, store openings, global sports events and fashion shows. In the last 7 years they have visited over 30 HUGO BOSS markets around the world, on every continent

HUGO BOSS was keen that Alex Thomson’s new IMOCA 60 was completely black. This presents some challenges due to the heat absorbed by black boats, which makes conditions insid the boat very unpleasant in the tropics and can even affect the structural integrity of the carbon deck and hull. BASF helped solve this problem by creating Black Stays Cool – a black pigment that reflects long-wave solar radiation thus keeping the dark surfaces much cooler.
